Here at 3 Degrees one of the things we like to do for fun to take iconic weapons and objects from video games, pop culture and other sources and render them “in real life”…pretty much everyone on staff is a current or former gamer and although our schedules don’t allow much time for games anymore…we still love ’em….
World of Warcraft is an enduring franchise and collectively we have many more “hours played” than we would like to admit…so it seemed fitting that we chose Frostmourne, wielded by the Lich King himself for a recent “fun project of the month”
According to the lore:
-
Whomsoever takes up this blade shall wield power eternal. Just as the blade rends flesh, so must power scar the spirit.”
Frostmourne was the runeblade that Ner’zhul, the Lich King, thrust from the Frozen Throne, intending that Arthas Menethil — his unwitting potential host — would discover it on the continent of Northrend. It was wielded by Arthas, the new Lich King, until it was destroyed by Tirion Fordring following his defeat in Icecrown Citadel.
And if thats not the geekiest thing you’ve ever read…we don’t know what is…anyway, we got a hold of a nice 3D model and got busy….here are some pics of the build…
After printing and assembling the various parts, it was off to Post -Production for sanding, filling and paint… The airbrushing came out really well and helps to “pop” the surface detail…
From there the finished sword headed out to our booth at the Anime Matsuri Cosplay Show in Houston..as you can see- it was a big hit and folks loved wielding the Runeblade!
